The Microsoft Quiz For Java Developers

Traditionally, Java developer’s favorite thing to do with Microsoft was to ignore it. Closed source, high price tags and narrow interoperability with many competing technologies only strengthened arguments for Java developers to keep Microsoft out of their software projects. That is why some of their latest efforts and progress may come as a surprise for Java developers. It might even be enough to reconsider Microsoft’s reputation entirely.

For the most part, a Java developer’s favorite thing to do with Microsoft is to ignore it. For the snarkier ones, they may even make fun of it. I remember one sysadmin telling me around the time Vista rolled out, “I heard if you play the install CD backwards you can hear satanic verses! Developers like their jokes, but their aversion to closed source, high price tags and proprietary interfaces only strengthened arguments for Java developers to keep Microsoft out of their projects.

But Microsoft has made some surprising gains in the past year. Take the quiz, and see what we mean—it might even be enough to reconsider Microsoft’s reputation entirely.
